It is not generally deemed particularly newsworthy when a person drinks a bit too much on his or her wedding day.
It is, though, when the bride-to-be gets clocked going 90-plus miles per hour on the interstate and then registers a blood-alcohol level that is approximately twice the state's legal limit for driving under the influence (DUI).
Throw in the time - 6 a.m. - and the circumstances - just returning from her bachelorette party and headed home for a few hours rest before the big event - and the arrest becomes national news.
The woman, 31, was spotted by a State Patrol trooper in Bellevue on August 21, who noted her inability to stay inside her traffic lane. The trooper stated in a report that she was weaving in and out of traffic on I-405. After being pulled over, she was subsequently booked and sent to jail.
Fortunately for her, she didn't need to stay long. After hearing her story, officers completed the booking process quickly and she posted bail, was released and took a cab home to prepare for her afternoon wedding in Burien.
To some degree, it was a day she will always remember.
The woman was arrested during a period of intensive DUI patrol activity across the state. In a previous blog, we noted the "Drive Hammered, Get Nailed" DUI enforcement campaign now underway through Labor Day, which is being conducted in tandem with a "Target Zero" initiative that made 200 drunk-driving arrests in King County in July alone.
