A 26-year-old Oregon man involved in a drunken driving crash on August 21 now faces vehicular homicide chargers for the death of a 3-month-old boy.

The man was arrested late on the 21st after receiving treatment at a hospital for lacerations as a result of the crash and made first appearance last Monday in Clark County Superior Court.

Prior to the crash, the man had been spotted passing cars haphazardly and swerving back and forth on the road. According to prosecutors, he was intoxicated and driving at a high rate of speed before he lost control of his vehicle, slammed into a median barrier and crashed into a couple's vehicle that had been disabled on Interstate 5.

The couple, who had been returning from a camping trip, reportedly stopped on the shoulder to fix a flat tire, leaving the infant inside while they did so. Sources said the impact left the driver with neck and back pain, and the passenger with a head laceration and a leg injury. Both received treatment from Peace Health Southwest Medical Center.

The man, reportedly a machine operator in Hillsboro, Oregon, has a previous conviction for drunken driving back in San Jose, California in 2005.

The crash is the second alleged vehicular homicide case in less than a week. The previous crash involved a 21-year-old Woodland man who has been accused of driving drunk in northern Clark County and killing a 76-year-old Vancouver man. His first court appearance took place last Friday.
