Erik Walden, an outside linebacker for the Green Bay Packers, reportedly spent the weekend behind bars after being arrested on suspicion of domestic violence. The accusations apparently stem from an incident involving his girlfriend.
News sources said Walden was arrested on Friday at an apartment he shares with his girlfriend in Brown County after his accused him of assault. Her original story was that Walden pushed her during an argument. Since then, however, she has changed her story and added that she struck Walden first.
The incident left Walden's girlfriend with a head laceration. She had apparently fallen onto a bed headboard, which later required treatment. According to authorities, it wasn't clear who called police about the incident.
Walden had to spend the weekend in jail due to the fact that court was closed. He was released on Monday morning after a hearing on $1,000 bond.
Prosecutors are still investigation the case, but no formal charges have yet been filed against Walden. Sources said there is some concern that Walden's girlfriend changed her story in order to protect him.
It isn't clear yet whether Walden's status with the Green Bay Packers will be affected by the incident. Team officials are apparently aware of the situation, and are currently gathering information.
In Washington, domestic violence assault may result in jail time and significant fines, in addition to a number of other consequences. Inability to possess firearms and facing protection orders, as well as required anger management classes, are among them.
