Whether or not our readers like country music, they may be interested to know that singer Rodney Atkins was recently accused by his wife of assaulting her during a heated argument. The argument between the couple of 13 years and subsequent allegations of domestic violence took place on November 21.
According to court records, Atkins' wife called police and accused the singer of attempting to suffocate her with a pillow and throwing her down a hallway after he had been drinking. After the event, the singer was arrested and released on bail.
Atkins denies the accusations, and according to his attorney, the argument was only an "unfortunate verbal dispute." His attorney asserted that the allegations are "completely untrue."
Since the incident, the singer has filed for divorce, and has said he will continue to have parenting time the couple's 10-year-old son. The divorce filing took place the day after Atkins' arrest.
According to the divorce filing, Atkins cited irreconcilable differences. In her response to the filing, Atkins' wife alleged that the singer "has been guilty of such inappropriate marital conduct as renders further co-habitation unsafe and improper."
It isn't clear yet what exactly took place in the altercation between Atkins and his wife, but it is important to realize that allegations of domestic violence are taken seriously, regardless of what actually took place.
Oftentimes, when police respond to a domestic violence call, they will arrest an accused party simply to put the situation in immediate resolve. Those allegations, however, need to be supported by the proper evidence before conviction is possible.
